Hello world!

As this is my first blog I thought I’d let everyone know how I decided to start my own arbitration company.

I come from a very broad background covering a variety of industries.  I initially graduated as a primary school teacher majoring in Phys Ed, and although I enjoyed the process of studying I had already decided to focus my career in the business sector.  This decision was based on my childhood environment as I am the child of small business owners and it seemed a very natural fit.  My father was a technology enthusiast, which was unusual at this time, and I was exposed to the latest technology from a young age.  This resulted in my first job as a business analyst and trainer for a small software company.  This opportunity provided me with a vast array of experience as you always end up doing a variety of jobs in small companies.

When my youngest child was 2 years old I decided I should get some formal qualifications in the information management field.  As a result, I completed a Master of Commerce majoring in information management at UWA.  Although I continued to do part time work in the technology sector I ultimately ended up working with my husband who was running his own architectural practice.  We had started this company about 10 years earlier and up to this point I had only been involved in the financial side of the company.  At this time, the company was expanding into the commercial market and we required a contract manager and a site superintendent.  This role fit neatly into my contract skillset, but up to this point I had not been involved in the construction of our projects.  This was a fantastic learning experience and I immediately felt at home on building sites.

This broad experience has enabled me to have the unusual combination of expertise in the construction and technology industries in addition to the experience of running your own business.

I was initially attracted to the role of an arbitrator as I have a passion for projects to run smoothly and efficiently, and constantly aim to resolve any ongoing disputes in a quick and civil manner. Although I understand that this is not always possible, I have achieved my arbitration registration in the hope of resolving disputes for others.

This passion has also prompted me to offer my services as a contract reviewer and Dispute Resolution Consultant.  I am a true believer in prevention of disputes by ensuring that contracts are regularly reviewed and modified in the hope of avoiding lengthy legal proceedings.

I also offer services of a Variation Reviewer during the construction process, as this can result in time and financial savings on projects and ultimately ensure the project is as efficient as possible and minimises the variations on the project.
